The United States joined FIFA in 1913. The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams. Of the 16 members of the USA's first World Cup team in 1930, five were born in Scotland and one in England. Columbus Crew Stadium, which opened in 1999, was the first stadium in the US built specifically for a MLS team. It has a seating capacity of 22,500. The Netherlands' Ernie Brandt is the only man to score a goal for both teams in a World Cup game, accomplishing the feat in 1978.
