Die Nationalmannschaft

When German manager Joachim Low gave Manuel Neuer the gloves and the No. 1 shirt, he was just 23 years old and following in the legendary footsteps of goalkeeping giants Oliver Kahn and Jens Lehmann. Low's confidence in Neuer was rewarded almost instantly with Neuer rising to the challenge rather that wilting under the pressure of the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa magnifying glass. He conceeded only once in the group stage and even notched an assist for Germany's opening goal in a dominant Round of 16 victory against England.

He's only gotten better from there. In 2011 while with Schalke he practically stood on his head against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League semifinals causing Sir Alex Ferguson to hail his display as the best ever by a goalkeeper against his Red Devils club.

That summer Neuer moved to Bayern Munich in the second highest ever transfer fee paid for a goalkeeper, trailing only the sum paid by Juventus for Gianluigi Buffon. Bayern Munich is getting value for the money as Neuer has put together a string of stunning displaying both domestically and in UEFA Champions League play, where he's saved penalties from Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka, blanked the likes of Juventus and Barcelona over two legs and denied Borussia Dortmund eight times in the final to claim the silverware. It's no wonder why goalkeeping experts call Neuer the best in the game. The scary part is, he hasn't reached his ceiling yet.

Official 2014 home goalkeeper jersey from adidas features the same classic design as Germany's home jersey.
