Soccer has its roots in ancient games like Cuju, which was popular in China around 400 BC. The United States joined FIFA in 1913. As of December, 2007, FIFA has 208 member associations -which is 16 more than the United Nations. The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams. Hungary scored 27 goals in the 1954 World Cup, more than any other country in a single World Cup.
