The official ball for the 1978 World Cup was the adidas Tango. At the 1998 World Cup in France, adidas supplied the match balls and outfitted 12,000 officials, referees, linesmen and volunteers. At the 1974 World Cup in Germany, 80% of all players wore adidas boots. The home team, outfitted head-to-toe in adidas, won the tournament. Rules of the Game: Goalposts and crossbar must have the same width and depth, which cannot exceed five inches (12 cm). The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams.
