At the 1978 World Cup, Argentina’s Mario Kempes led his country to its first World Cup triumph. Kempes is top scorer in the tournament and, like nine other players on the winning team, he wore Puma shoes. In 1982, Argentina’s Diego Maradona led his country to the World Cup title. Wearing Puma boots, Maradona scored the spectacular solo goal which will later officially be voted Goal of the Century by FIFA. Maradona is voted “Player of the Tournament”. At the 1998 World Cup, Puma boots appear on the feet of 23% of the players who make an appearance. The U.S. Governing body for the sport did not have soccer in its name until 1945, when it became the U.S. Soccer Football Association. The youngest player to score in the German Bundesliga was Nuri Sahin of Borussia Dortmund (16 years and 335 days) in 2005.
