The mascot for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France was a cockerel (or rooster) named Footix. CONCACAF, the Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Footbal, was founded in 1961 and has 40 member associations. The first African nation to qualify for the World Cup was Egypt in 1934. The second was Morocco in 1970. More than 90,000 people filled the Rose Bowl to watch the United States defeat China in the 1999 Women's World Cup final. The 1970 World Cup was the first to be televised in color.
