The first soccer game based on English FA rules in the United States took place between Rutgers University and Princeton University on Novermber 6, 1869. In the early years of of the game, American soccer was dominated by teams from New England, particularly Fall River, New Bedford and Pawtucket. Of the 16 members of the USA's first World Cup team in 1930, five were born in Scotland and one in England.
