The first recorded women's soccer game took place on March 23, 1895. The first non-European nation to join FIFA was South Africa in 1909. The University of Virginia won four consecutive NCAA Div 1 men's soccer titles from 1991 to 1994. The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams. The US Women have won the prestigious Algarve Cup tournament in Portugal five times as of 2007.
