The Passback program provides used but playable soccer gear to needy teams and organizations around the world and here at home. The U.S. Governing body for the sport did not have soccer in its name until 1945, when it became the U.S. Soccer Football Association. The earliest documented use of the word football appears in a proclamation by King Henry IV of England in 1409. The name soccer comes from association football, which is the sport's formal name. The current World Cup trophy will be retired in 2038 when there is no more room for the champion's name.
