Rules of the Game: The referee indicates an indirect free kick by raising his arm above his head. He maintains his arm in that position until the kick has been taken and the ball has touched another player or goes out of play. The team sponsored by Bethlehem Steel won four out of the first six US Open Cup tournaments- 1915, '16, '18 and '19. American Bert Patenaude scored the first hat trick in World Cup history in a 3-0 victory over Paraguay in 1930. Of the U.S. WNT coaches who coached more than four games, only Tony DiCicco was born in the United States. The Netherlands' Ernie Brandt is the only man to score a goal for both teams in a World Cup game, accomplishing the feat in 1978.
