The Oceania Football Confederation consists of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea and nine other Pacific island nations. The 1934 and 1990 World Cups were held in Italy. In the early years of of the game, American soccer was dominated by teams from New England, particularly Fall River, New Bedford and Pawtucket. The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams. The current World Cup trophy will be retired in 2038 when there is no more room for the champion's name.
