Soccer was first played as an official Olympic competition in 1908. Great Britain won the Gold that year. The mascot for the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy was a green, white and red stick figure with a soccer ball head named Ciao. Mexico's Pachuca defeated the LA Galaxy on penalties to win the inaugual North American SuperLiga in 2007. The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams. The 1970 World Cup was the first to be televised in color.
