The mascots for the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany were two boy characters named Tip and Tap. The mascot for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico was a sombrero-wearing jalapeno pepper named Pique. In the first US Open Cup Final, played in 1914, Brooklyn Field Club defeated Brooklyn Celtic, 2-1. The name soccer comes from association football, which is the sport's formal name. The United States Women's national team played its first-ever international soccer match on August 18, 1985 against Italy near Venice.
