As of December, 2007, FIFA has 208 member associations -which is 16 more than the United Nations. The first Women’s World Cup was held in China in 1991. The North American Soccer League (NASL) existed from 1968 to 1984 with teams in the United States and Canada. The first appearance of organized women's soccer in the US may have been in 1922, when a team sponsored by English company Dick, Kerr toured the country -and beat several top men's teams.
