Rules of the Game: According to FIFA, a goal may be scored directly from the kick-off. The U.S. Governing body for the sport did not have soccer in its name until 1945, when it became the U.S. Soccer Football Association. FIFA (Fédération Internationale de Football Association) was founded in Paris on May 21, 1904. Unlike the Olympics, FIFA recognizes the four Home Nations of the United Kingdom - England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland- as separate entities. More than 90,000 people filled the Rose Bowl to watch the United States defeat China in the 1999 Women's World Cup final.
