The FA Cup in England is the world's oldest soccer competition, having first taken place in 1871. Soccer was first played as an official Olympic competition in 1908. Great Britain won the Gold that year. Gerd Muller, who played for Bayern Munich from 1965-79, is the all-time leading scorer in the German Bundesliga with 365 goals in 427 games. Karl-Heinz Korbel, who played for Eintracht Frankfurt from 1972 to 1991, holds the record for Bundesliga appearances with 602. The United States Women's national team played its first-ever international soccer match on August 18, 1985 against Italy near Venice.
