Rules of the Game: The captain of a team has no special status or privileges under the FIFA Laws of the Game but he has a degree of responsibility for the behavior of his team. The mascot for the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France was a cockerel (or rooster) named Footix. The mascots for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan were futuristic, computer-generated creatures named Ato, Kaz and Nik. More than 90,000 people filled the Rose Bowl to watch the United States defeat China in the 1999 Women's World Cup final. The name soccer comes from association football, which is the sport's formal name.
