The North American Soccer League (NASL) existed from 1968 to 1984 with teams in the United States and Canada. In the first US Open Cup Final, played in 1914, Brooklyn Field Club defeated Brooklyn Celtic, 2-1. Columbus Crew Stadium, opened in 1999, was the first major soccer specific stadium in the U.S.. The current World Cup trophy will be retired in 2038 when there is no more room for the champion's name. The 1970 World Cup was the first to be televised in color.
