Rules of the Game: On a soccer field, the two longer boundary lines are called touch lines. The two shorter lines are called goal lines. The U.S. Governing body for the sport did not have soccer in its name until 1945, when it became the U.S. Soccer Football Association. The African Cup of Nations, the main international football competition in Africa, was first held in 1957. The first soccer league in the United States was the American Football Association, which existed from 1884-88. The U.S. Women's National Team's top two career goal scorers, Mia Hamm and Kristine Lilly, were teammates at the University of North Carolina.
