At the 1954 World Cup, adidas founder Adi Dassler adapted the shoes of the German national team to the ground conditions with his revolutionary screw-in studs. Germany won the tournament. The first shoe in adidas’ legendary Samba line was introduced in 1950. Rules of the Game: All field marking lines should not be more than 12 cm (5 inches) wide. The mascots for the 1974 FIFA World Cup in West Germany were two boy characters named Tip and Tap. The mascot for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico was a sombrero-wearing jalapeno pepper named Pique.
