FIFA Women's World Cup USA 2003 came to a dramatic close with Germany's Golden Goal in extra time against resilient Sweden. Heading into the match, the Germans appeared unstoppable, having swept through group play and dispensing of defending champion USA in the semi final. But the surprising Swedes, led by the dynamic attacking duo of Victoria Svensson and Hanna Ljungberg, knew they could play with any team in the world and did their part in making this the best match of the tournament.

Sweden struck first at 41' with Ljungberg depositing a Svensson through ball into the German net. Master playmaker Maren Meinert put Germany level just 1 minute into the second half and that would be the final goal in regulation. Germany's Golden Goal would come from an unlikely source. Substitute Nia Kuenzer headed home Renate Lingor's perfect free kick at 98' to give Germany the championship.

A crisply played world class match that is not only entertaining but a perfect instructional and motivational tool for girls teams of all ages!
