Each FIFA World Cup since 1966 has its own mascot, starting with World Cup Willie (a lion). The mascots for the 2002 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan were futuristic, computer-generated creatures named Ato, Kaz and Nik. The mascot for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany was a lion named Goleo VI. He had a talking soccer ball sidekick named Pille. Columbus Crew Stadium, which opened in 1999, was the first stadium in the US built specifically for a MLS team. It has a seating capacity of 22,500. The name soccer comes from association football, which is the sport's formal name.
