England's Football Association first legalized professional soccer players in 1885. The U.S. Governing body for the sport did not have soccer in its name until 1945, when it became the U.S. Soccer Football Association. The mascot for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain was an orange named Naranjito. The most prolific goal-scorer in the North American Soccer League was Italian Giorgio Chinaglia of the New York Cosmos: 242 goals in 254 games. The first soccer game based on English FA rules in the United States took place between Rutgers University and Princeton University on Novermber 6, 1869.
