England's Football Association first legalized professional soccer players in 1885. The mascot for the 1982 FIFA World Cup in Spain was an orange named Naranjito. The most prolific goal-scorer in the North American Soccer League was Italian Giorgio Chinaglia of the New York Cosmos: 242 goals in 254 games. The first soccer game based on English FA rules in the United States took place between Rutgers University and Princeton University on Novermber 6, 1869.
