Rules of the Game: The captain of a team has no special status or privileges under the FIFA Laws of the Game but he has a degree of responsibility for the behavior of his team. Rules of the Game: The referee indicates an indirect free kick by raising his arm above his head. He maintains his arm in that position until the kick has been taken and the ball has touched another player or goes out of play. Rules of the Game: A match may not start if either team consists of fewer than seven players. The United States has never won a World Cup game on European soil. The Netherlands' Ernie Brandt is the only man to score a goal for both teams in a World Cup game, accomplishing the feat in 1978.
