The U.S. Governing body for the sport did not have soccer in its name until 1945, when it became the U.S. Soccer Football Association. Soccer was first played as an official Olympic competition in 1908. Great Britain won the Gold that year. Mexican goalkeeper Antonio Carbajal played in five consecutive World Cups (1950-66). Columbus Crew Stadium, which opened in 1999, was the first stadium in the US built specifically for a MLS team. It has a seating capacity of 22,500. American Bert Patenaude scored the first hat trick in World Cup history in a 3-0 victory over Paraguay in 1930.
