At the 1978 World Cup, Argentina’s Mario Kempes led his country to its first World Cup triumph. Kempes is top scorer in the tournament and, like nine other players on the winning team, he wore Puma shoes. The most prolific goal-scorer in the North American Soccer League was Italian Giorgio Chinaglia of the New York Cosmos: 242 goals in 254 games. American Bert Patenaude scored the first hat trick in World Cup history in a 3-0 victory over Paraguay in 1930. The Houston Dynamo edged the New England Revolution in the MLS Cup in both 2006 and 2007. The Netherlands' Ernie Brandt is the only man to score a goal for both teams in a World Cup game, accomplishing the feat in 1978.
