The mascot for the 1986 FIFA World Cup in Mexico was a sombrero-wearing jalapeno pepper named Pique. The University of Virginia won four consecutive NCAA Div 1 men's soccer titles from 1991 to 1994. Alan Shearer has scored more goals in the English Premier League than any other player (240). The current World Cup trophy will be retired in 2038 when there is no more room for the champion's name. England played its first-ever international soccer match on November 30, 1872 against Scotland.
