Nike was founded by former University of Oregon runner Phil Knight and his coach, Bill Bowerman. The rules of the game were first written down in 1863 by the newly formed Football Association in England. Each FIFA World Cup since 1966 has its own mascot, starting with World Cup Willie (a lion). The mascot for the 1978 FIFA World Cup in Argentina was a boy character named Gauchito. Stars George Best, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo all wore #7 for Manchester United.
