Fiorentina fights for next season's Champions League

Fiorentina, Italy (Sports Network) - With only seven matches remaining, Fiorentina looks to secure its fourth place standing in Serie A standings when it hosts Roma at Artemio Franchi stadium on Sunday.

Roma continues to be the home side's greatest threat in the league and currently trails the club by only one point. With Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan commanding the top three, the winner of Saturday's game could very well determine who will be going into next season's Champions League.

Fiorentina has 60 points with 18 wins, seven losses and six draws. The club enters this weekend's match after a 3-1 defeat against runner-up AC Milan last Saturday.

The visiting squad improved its record to 17-6-8 last weekend after a 1-1 draw with Serie A champion Juventus and will look to grab three more points on the road this week.

Fiorentina has won an impressive 14 of its 16 home games this season. Fiorentina defender Tomas Ujfalusi hopes to continue this trend on Sunday and increase its one point lead over Roma.

"It will be a nice match, that we shall play in front of our own crowd against a strong and organized Roma side," Ujfalusi told the club's website.

"We are preparing ourselves a lot with the tactical indications of Mr. Prandelli. The public will be an important ally, it will be a fair game both off and on the pitch."

Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli will look to forward Luca Toni to lead the team's offensive surge against Roma. The Serie A top scorer recorded his 25th goal of the season last Saturday against AC Milan. Toni remains only one goal shy of Gabriel Batistuta and Kurt Hamrin's club record for most goals scored in a season.

Roma's offensive line is questionable with injuries from Francesco Totti, Vincenzo Montella and Shabani Nonda. With the return of midfielder Daniele De Rossi, Roma coach Luciano Spalletti will most likely start Brazilian playmaker Rodrigo Taddei alone up front with a five-man midfield.

In other Serie A play this weekend: On Saturday, third place Inter Milan trails AC Milan by five when it hosts Messina; AC Milan heads to Lecce, who remains in the relegation zone; Treviso hosts first-place Juventus.

On Sunday, Ascoli travels to Palermo; Sampdoria looks for its 11th league win of the season when it welcomes Cagliari; Seventh-place Lazio meets Empoli; Livorno heads to Chievo; Udinese tries to avoid relegation when its hosts Parma; Reggina faces Siena to conclude Serie A action.
