Beckham Reveals American Dream

(Goal.com) - England captain David Beckham has reiterated his interest in playing in the United States.

The Real Madrid star revealed during England’s tour of the U.S. last summer that a move could come to fruition at the end of his time in Spain.

"At some stage, playing in America is possible," he told the BBC, reiterating what he said during England's tour of America last summer.

"I've one year left at Real, and maybe two more after that, but things can change in football and the American league does interest me. I want to be part of a country that is passionate about sport.

"I've got my academy in LA which is important to me, because that is my life after the game."

The second David Beckham Academy just opened in the Los Angeles area last month. Earlier this year, Goal.com ran a feature on the Academy.

Bring him on! A "past-his-prime" Beckham would still kick most of our MLS players' butts. He would be a great asset for MLS and generate a lot of excitement for the game in the US.

i don't agree on this one. how can Beckham make the same mistake that Beckembauer and Pele made. if he goes tothe MLS he will be the best but he has more fans back in spain(i go for real madrid)besides MLS is some overrated league in comparrison with spanish soccer. nobody even watches MLS games (or even cares) because they're too busy watching the NFL, NBA, or even the NHL . and to close it up back in spain he played with and against the best(with ronaldo, zidane and against ronaldinho himself.)who is he going to play with or against ? probably someone like donovan the amateur. not very honorable, huh?

I guess it depends on Beckham. If he wants to continue playing to an older age, MLS is probably one of his only options.

Honestly, more and more people ARE watching and attending MLS games. The level of play is getting better and Beckham could really have an impact. That sounds pretty honorable to me.

People here in the US who only watch or care about foreign leagues really need to not be so snobby and at least appreciate the efforts our domestic players, coaches, and managers are putting into their games, teams, etc. I don't think anyone really tries to equate the MLS to the EPL or anyone else. It's a young league in a country of many more popular sports. It hasn't been easy to gain momentum, but they have and I'm proud of what MLS has accomplished to date.

Please, keep Beckham out! American soccer does not need him, he cannot head the ball to save his life, cannot kick with his left foot and has been mediocre in his recent penalty kicks, which is supposed to be his specialty. Any soccer player could marry a spice girl and have the fame he has. Most overrated player ever...EVER.

Even if he is as overrated as you say, it would be great to use his giant media attraction for the benefit of american soccer.

Meh...He will last as long as Mathis did, one season.

i think david beckham thinks that we r not passionate about soccer. and if david beckham thinks that we dont watch MLS then what is the over one million kids and adults that watch soccer. If he thinks that we are not good at soccer then tell him the rankings we are 8th and england is 9th we are ranked higher and this world cup usa will show how good we are at soccer and we will not get steped on by any place in the world we are a team of heart and the desire to play soccer so we will show david that we are a country of soccer
fans and great soccer players

Go beckham!! go beckham!! we love you!! we will support you!!

beckham is definetly not overated. i don't know what you are talking about. he is one the greatest players on madrid. if he came to the MLS he would easily be the best by far.USA doesn't even care about soccer and there aren't any good teams in the MLS.the only good teams in youth soccer are in CALIFORNIA and there are a lot of good young teams in spain. they are way more passionate about soccer. Any team in Europe is better than the top MLS team. the MLS is a discrace to soccer . they aren't even good. beckham should stay in spain with good players and good teams.STAY IN MADRID.

THERE IS NO WAY USA WILL EVEN MAKE OUT OF BRACKET
EVEN IF THEY DO MAKE IT OUT OF BRACKET THEY WILL PLAY BRAZIL AND GET STOMPED
THOSE RANKINGS ARE TOTALLY WRONG
ENGLAND WOULD KILL USA IN A GAME

usa are getting better and better at soccer i do not know what your talking about pie philliphines look at your team you cant even kick the ball properly are you in the world cup no!this world cup i reckon well come to the semi finals and in 2010 well be a major contender to win the world cup.we need becham to populate our sport.KICK ALL THE BAD AMERICAN SPORTS LIKE BASEBALL AND HOCKEY AND PUT IN FOOTBALL(SOCCER)IM VERY GOOD AND I THINK U SHOULD SCOUT ME ANYONE OUT THERE.COMON ARSENAL THE CLUB I SUPPORT WE JUST GOT ROSICKY NO AMERICAN WILL KNOW WHO HE IS BECAUSE YOU WE DONT WATCH ENOUGH FOOTBALL COMON YOU AMERICANS IM RIGHT BEHIND YOU ALL THE WAY AND ARSENAL!

Ignore the FIFA World Rankings, they mean nothing.

They are based on the amount of friendlies a team wins etc, so when teams such as the USA are playing teams such as El Salvador, they are always going to rise up the rankings.

This is even more compounded by the fact that the European teams use friendlies for nothing more than experimentation.

Thank you Brandon for you are one of the only ones who overlooks rankings i mean usa play costa rica el salvador jamica if they really were a great squad they should dominate their area adding points makeing them "1" i mean come on a tie with Jamica that is quite sad based that they were only in the '98 cup. back to this Beckham thing i think it would be great for US soccer and raise interest. however for beckham i think it would show a sign of him burning out.
