Houllier Declares Title Race Over
(Soccer365.com) - Despite needing one more point to clinch, Lyon boss Gerard Houllier says a fifth straight Ligue 1 crown is a mere formality at this point.
A win over Nice gave the holders a 14-point edge over second place Bordeaux with five rounds remaining.
"We can now admit that we have won the fifth title," he told L’Est Republicain. "Even if we have to take a point at Paris next weekend, we will do it."
"Winning the championship was our main objective, in order to qualify for our seventh straight Champions League."
"We have worked hard to obtain it, and played a very interesting game in several competitions," said the ever-ambitious Houllier. "The club wants to win the French Cup, in order to forget our sad elimination in the Champions League."
