Lavolpe Sets Preliminary Squad

(Soccer365.com) - Mexico coach Ricardo Lavolpe has named an initial 26-man roster for this summer’s World Cup, the most obvious surprise being the omission mercurial attacker Cuauhtemoc Blanco.

The manager will need to pair this initial list down to 23 names on May 15.

“We worked three years on a process that culminates today,” declared Lavolpe. “Each aspirant was evaluated thoroughly to arrive at a final determination.”

Preliminary Mexico World Cup roster:

Goalkeepers: Oswaldo Jesus Corona (Tecos), Guillermo Ochoa (America), Sanchez (Guadalajara),

Defenders: Antonio Castro (America), Jose Guardado (Atlas), Joel Huiqui (Cruz Azul), Rafael Marquez (Barcelona), Jose Mario Mendez (Monterrey), Ricardo Osorio (Cruz Azul), Gonzalo Pineda (Guadalajara), Francisco Rodriguez (Guadalajara), Carlos Salcido (Guadalajara), Claudio Suarez (Chivas USA)

Midfielders: Jose Garcia (Atlas), Israel Lopez (Toluca), Jaime Lozano (Tigres), Ramon Morales (Guadalajara), Antonio Naelson (Toluca), Pavel Pardo (America), Luis Perez (Monterrey), Gerardo Torrado (Cruz Azul)

Forwards: Jose Arellano (Monterrey), Jared Borgetti (Bolton), Omar Bravo (Guadalajara). Francisco Fonseca (Cruz Azul), Guillermo Franco (Villarreal)

i think mexico is the best team in the world

Mexico is the best even without Blanco because all we need is Oswaldo Sanchez, the best goalie in the world.

I think u did good by not choosing blanco to play in ur team because blanco i getting old and he doesnt really run taht much no more so it is not a big problem not having blanco on the team the team just has to get it together and work hard if they want to win

I think that Blanco not being there is not a big problem. If the team just work hard and play together as a team they will have a good showing in the World Cup.

Mexico without Cuauhtemoc Blanco, is not mexico

for all of yall saying that blanco is not a good player should learn about soccer. its not about age its about heart passion etc. blanco its the best player they have he's got a vision like no other thanks to him mexico has won some of the matches

Blanco is the only "10" Mexico has

i think that mexico is ready but they should of let blanco on the team because he is one of the best players that mexico has. mexico will need blanco in the team

blanco es el mejor sin el no funciona bien Mexico

blanco is not the best, but we need him for his experience that he has. hes beter than chiqui garcia & thats affet!!!!

all i have to say is . "good job lavolpe"

Blanco deserves to play on the national team if Chiquis Garcia is on there. LaVolpe gave some lame excuse about Blanco not playing good at the moment. When has Chiquis in the past year (Or ever). He also gave some excuse of Chiquis winning the championship with Toluca. As I recall so did America. Chiquis Garcia is only on there becuase he is LaVolpe's son in law. Blanco is the best mexican player out there.

I think is a good lesson for illeterate stars who think they are so important. The same lesson Romario received. Blanco deserves the same thing. Anyway, Blanco time is over 30 years old.....Hope all new coming stars will learn. I think Lavolpe makes the right decision.

I think that Mexico is better off without Blanco, he isn't the best player in Mexico either. But, I also agree that Chiquis should not be on the roster.
