Messi's return to pitch delayed

Messi attacks for Barcelona
Barcelona, Spain (Sports Network) - Barcelona striker Lionel Messi will have his return to the pitch put on hold after suffering a setback with an ongoing thigh injury in practice this week.

The 18-year-old Argentinean originally injured his thigh back on March 7, while playing in the first knockout round of Barcelona's second leg match with Chelsea. At the time of the injury, it was decided that an operation was not necessary and he would recover in four weeks.

Messi did return to training, but was held out of practice on Tuesday due to discomfort in the thigh. The club has already ruled him out of Friday's La Liga contest with Villarreal, and his status for next Tuesday's Champions League matchup with AC Milan is in serious jeopardy.

"Messi noticed that the damaged muscle had not completely healed so we will continue treating him until he overcomes the problem," said Dr. Jordi Ardevol.

Also on the Barcelona injury front, Ronaldinho (thigh) and Juliano Belletti (achilles) are also nursing injuries and are both questionable for Friday's game.

Barcelona has a commanding 11-point lead atop La Liga through 32 games.

Comments

I think a problem is also psychological, Messi is probably stressed out for all the pressure people are putting on him, I mean he's 18 and people are telling him he's the next Maradona and stuff (even though it might be true), and everybody expects him to be the best.

More Games Please

messi is maradona

maradona has already prayed 4 him.

Barca with Rona, Eto'o and Larsson is a good team
with Rona, Eto'o and Giuly is better
with Rona, Eto'o and MESSI is the best team in the world

Even if Leo have pressure from Barca fans, he will perform the same way as Maradona.

He's young, He got skills, and his trainers are Rijkaard and Diego him self.

i think barcalona should play chivas [of mexico] in a friendly game after the fifa world cup. I think it would be a good game.

Thank God! Someone with brains spaeks!
