MLS Team of the Week

(Goal.com) - The formation this week, 3-4-3, mirrors that of last week. Matt Reis is the only hold-over from the previous MLS Team of the Week:

G – Matt Reis (New England Revolution): Reis makes the team for the second straight week after keeping a clean sheet against Red Bull New York. Despite some of the lights in the stadium going out late in the match, Reis was able to see Amado Guevara’s dipping free kick to tip it over the bar.

D – Chris Albright (Los Angeles Galaxy): Albright was beastly on defense and scored the Galaxy’s only goal of the match, which also is the only goal of the season for his club. Albright leads Landon Donovan in scoring, which probably is the type of stat D.C. United envisioned when they drafted Albright as a striker.

D – Jim Curtin (Chicago Fire): Big Jim headed home the equalizer in their draw with Los Angeles, and he also led the way in preventing Galaxy strikers Landon Donovan and Herculez Gomez from scoring.

D – Jose Burciaga Jr. (Kansas City Wizards): Terrell Owens-esque post-goal celebrations led to his ejection, but Burciaga’s 90th minute laser beam winner allowed the Wizards to gain maximum points for the second straight week. Burciaga also assisted on KC’s first goal.

M – Terry Cooke (Colorado Rapids): With playmaker Clint Mathis out of the lineup, Cooke assisted on all three of Colorado’s goals in the club’s first win of the season.

M – Kyle Beckerman (Colorado Rapids ): For the second straight week Beckerman delivered a powerful shot and goal, and in general he made the absence of the team’s destroyer, Pablo Mastroeni, seem not so bad.

M – Shalrie Joseph (New England Revolution): It’s not his fault the Revs couldn’t finish their chances. The guy is just pure class and he made the Red Bulls’ Guevara, and even Djorkaeff, look kind of ordinary by comparison.

M – Juan Pablo Garcia (Chivas USA ): Garcia and Chivas USA lost to D.C. United, but Garcia showed well. He had one goal called back for a weird offside call. He also had another goal – a splendid free kick – never ruled a score, because the officials didn’t see it cross the goal line.

F – Roberto Mina (FC Dallas): Carlos Ruiz may have had the snappy back heel flick, which Kenny Cooper finished with aplomb, but Mina was excellent on both sides of the ball for the Hoops. It was his trickery on the flank that eventually led to Mark Wilson’s lucky winner.

F – Jaime Moreno (D.C. United): Moreno scored both goals in the win over Chivas USA. The first was a bit lucky but rewarded a fantastic run. The second was simply a classy finish to punctuate United’s victory.

F – Jovan Kirovski (Colorado Rapids): This may be the only week of the season in which three players from the Rapids will appear, but Kirovski’s presence is no less deserving than his teammates’ inclusion. Kirovski scored on a diving header, his second goal in as many weeks.
