New England Boss Announcement Next Week

(Goal.com) - The Football Association will announce Sven-Goran Eriksson's successor as England team manager next week.

The governing body of the gasme in England have finished interviewing contenders for the job, although apparently no decision has yet been made.

No announcement will be made before next week while the FA's nominations panel ponder their choice.

Once the panel have reached a decision, they then need to have the decision ratified by the FA board, agree terms with the new manager and, if necessary, sort out compensation with a club.

All that is likely to take several days.

Martin O'Neill and Steve McClaren have emerged in recent days as the most likely candidates to succeed Eriksson, though it is understood that Alan Curbishley and Sam Allardyce also impressed when they were interviewed.

A senior FA source said: "All the people on the shortlist have now been interviewed and it is now a case for the nominations panel to determine the candidate they want - and they have not done so yet.

"All the candidates interviewed very, very well and as a result it means the panel have a lot to consider."

Under the process laid out by FA chief executive Brian Barwick, the nominations panel - comprising Barwick, FA chairman Geoff Thompson, international committee chairman Noel White, Premier League chairman Dave Richards, Arsenal vice-chairman and FA board member David Dein and FA director of football development Sir Trevor Brooking - have to have their choice ratified by the board.

Although the next board meeting is not until May 4, an announcement should be made before that.
