U.S. Women announce trip to Japan
Chicago, IL (Sports Network) - The U.S. Women's National Team announced a two-match trip to Japan Friday for the first time in nearly eight years.
The team will face Japan for the first of two meetings May 7 in Kumamoto. The second meeting will take place two days later, on May 9 in Osaka.
"The two games in Japan come at a good time to bridge between the Algarve Cup and our domestic matches this summer," U.S. head coach Greg Ryan said.
The U.S. will meet Japan for the first time since August 2004 during the Olympics. During that match, the U.S. handed Japan a 3-1 loss in the quarterfinals.
The trip to Japan is the first one since 1998, when the U.S. Women's team played three matches in Tokyo, Kobe and Yokohama.
