Arena Finished With Job Two
(Soccer365.com) - U.S. National Team coach Bruce Arena couldn’t be blamed if he took a sigh of relief after revealing his 23-man World Cup 2006 roster on Tuesday evening.
"The naming of this 23-man roster is the end of a long and arduous process," he assured. "It has carried the U.S. team throughout the CONCACAF region and the world over the last three-and-a-half-years."
"I'm comfortable in saying that over these 59 games, I've been able to observe and evaluate a pool of very talented players."
"It's unfortunate that I'm not able to bring all these players to Germany," said Arena. "I'm extremely grateful for the effort and professionalism that all our players exhibited throughout the process."

I have really been anticipating the release of the US roster and now I'm releived to have it out there so I can begin preparing for the world cup. I am surprised that Taylor Twellman did not make the cut while Brian Ching did, what's the deal with that? What's the starting line-up going to look like? Here's my prediction: Keller-Pope, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Cherundolo- Donovan, Reyna, Beasley, Dempsey- Johnson, McBride

Cheese, your lineup looks good. Except I think eddie lewis will probably start at left back. And if O'brien is healthy, I expect him to start, possibly moving Donovan up front with McBride and putting ejohnson on the bench. we'll have to see who is fit come June.

I think Twellman should be on the team too. I do think that he picked a good squad. I am also glad Olsen is on the team.

I think bruce did a very good job in picking the team, except for brian ching. If i were in bruce, i would change the formation from a 4-4-2 to a 4-5-1. This way he could let Landon Donovan, Damarcus Beasley, and Bobby Convey be able to run up and down the field, with Mcbride being the lone striker up top, because i dont see how Bobby Convey could be left off the pitch in a world cup. This way the United States could really hurt teams with their speed. my starting line-up would look like this
Keller
lewis Pope Bocanegra Churundolo
Reyna Mastrolani
Convey Donovan Beasley
Mcbride

I think the the roster is good. i agree with the decision to leave twellman home because in my opinion he is not always consistant. I can't wait to see who ends up starting.

Brandon you are right about convey, but you left out the best up and coming player the U.S. roster has. Onyewu will become a star after this world cup. He is our best defender and will be the reason we do well this year.

I agree with kyle. There is no way Onyewu doesn't start. He will be the centerpiece of the US defense and he's also dangerous on set-pieces on the offensive end, b/c he's so big.

Arena was right to leave twellman home. the only thing consistent about the guy is his inconsistency. I wish he would have taken Convey though. that guys sick. and Brandon, McBride better not be alone up top. The guys just not good enough individually to succeed as a lone striker. (Especially in the group they are in) Plus its not his style. He plays better with another striker to work with

Mcbride might not be that good alone uptop, but when you have him backed by convey, donovan, and beasley we look alot more dangerous. No actually i take that back, we are more dangerous. And we'll be able to counter much better teams like italy and the czech much more effectivly.
