Chivas coach glad to advance in Libertadores
(Soccer365.com) - Before less than 10,000 on hand, in a cold and wet night, Manuel de la Torre's the Chivas fell 3-1 but squeezed into the next round on the strength of their 3-0 win last week, giving them the 4-3 aggregate victory.
Jose Manuel de la Torre expressed his happiness over his club’s qualification to the Copa Libertadores quarterfinals, despite a 3-1 loss to a side he considered “a huge rival.”
“Chepo” told local media that his players worked hard, showing their personality, in spite of the difficulties faced in Bogota, like the bad conditions on the pitch and the home team backed against a wall.
“The game was in two times, one in Guadalajara and one in Bogota, the balance has favored us, and we’re glad for that,” said De la Torre.
De la Torre admitted that at times his troops got harried, lost their cool and consequently missed out on some scoring chances that could have made things easier.
“In the second half they hit us hard in our territory and we did not have the calm to capitalize on a few counterattacks.”
The Chivas coach concluded by stating his team’s focus will now be on Thursday’s Mexican quarterfinals match versus Jaguares, before they even begin to worry about the next Libertadores opponent, either Velez Sarsfield or Newell’s Old Boys.
