Crespo Out To Prove His Worth

(Soccer365.com) - Wantaway Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo is desperate to show his true form for Argentina at this summer's World Cup in Germany.

Wantaway Chelsea striker Hernan Crespo is desperate to show his true form for Argentina at this summer's World Cup in Germany.

The 30-year-old has been offered a new two-year contract at Stamford Bridge but seems desperate to leave the Premiership champions.

With his future in limbo, Crespo is focusing on the Germany showpiece and said: "I want to show more than what I did in the last two World Cups.

"In 1998, it was my first time, there was a bit of pressure, everything was new and we had some problems with press.

"And again in 2002, unfortunately, we didn't have enough time as we came back home after the group stage.

"This World Cup will be different for me. After those experiences, I can enjoy more the fact of belonging to the national team and I think I'll be able to play a good World Cup."

Goalkeeper Roberto Abbondanzieri is waiting eagerly for coach Jose Pekerman's decision on the starting spot for in the World Cup.

Abbondanzieri had an excellent season at Boca Juniors but has yet to show the same form between the posts for Argentina.

"Nobody has told me that I'd be the starting keeper yet," he said.

"All of us are working very hard to get to Germany in good shape.

"We need to understand the coach's message, so any of the 23 players who have to enter the pitch will do it in the best way."
