Domenech Unsated By Mexico Win
(Soccer365.com) - Despite the 1-0 victory over a World Cup team the French coach is not satisfied.
France coach Raymond Domenech admitted his side will have to improve after the 1-0 win in a friendly against Mexico on Saturday night.
And he warned his players that he is expecting a better performance against Denmark on Wednesday in Lens.
Les Bleus conquered the CONCACAF power thanks to a Florent Malouda tally near halftime.
This game was Zinedine Zidane's last at the Stade de France and he also collected his 100th cap for Les Bleus.
However, the gifted midfielder - like the rest of the team - looked uninspired in a match which was wrapped up thanks to Florent Maoulida's 45th-minute strike.
"We knew what to expect in terms of physical level," said Domenech. "We knew that we would suffer in the second half because Mexico have played more matches than us.
"We suffered a lapse of form in the second half but we resisted and held on and did not let them fight back.
"That was the objective so I am happy with the performance."
France take on Denmark before travelling to Saint Etienne on June 7 to meet China, then start their World Cup campaign on June 13 against Switzerland in Stuttgart.
"I will expect much more from my players in our next clash," added Domenech. "We must evolve, improve, get better and better to be at the top of our game on June 13.
"Our next match will have to give us more indications about our game."
Domenech also insisted his squad are still in the preparation phase just two weeks before the competition begins.
"This match was there to judge the performances of my players," added the French boss. "But the truth will be on June 13.
"This match was a rehearsal and so will our next two matches against Denmark and China. be The first performance of the team will be on June 13.
"I am convinced we will all be ready to go as far as possible in the competition and for us that means the final."
