The Swedes reached the semi-finals of the tournament in the USA 12 years ago as the surprise package before being beaten by eventual winners Brazil.
Sweden will line up against England, Paraguay and Trinidad and Tobago in Group B of the finals.
And Mjallby believes organisation and a solid defence can help his country in Germany.
He said: "I think we will go through from the group stage. But, after that, it is hard to say.
"You need your key players to be in form and have a good organisation.
"We talk about our three 'Super Swedes' - Freddie Ljungberg, Henrik Larsson and Zlatan Ibrahimovic - but we have to remember Sweden has built success on a good organisation and a strong defence.
"Other teams such as Brazil and England have world-class players all over the pitch so we need a very strong organisation and defence.
"We could reach the quarter-finals but, after that, it will be down to luck as well."
