Owen, Rooney, Walcott on England WC Roster
(Goal.com) - England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson named three question-mark strikers -- Rooney, Owen and Walcott -- to his preliminary 23-man World Cup roster.
Newcastle United striker Michael Owen made the list, as did broken-footed Wayne Rooney and 17-year-old prodigy Theo Walcott, who has yet to feature for Arsenal since moving to London from Southampton in January. Liverpool's Peter Crouch was the other striker named to the squad.
On Walcott, Eriksson said, "I decided to take Theo this morning. I am taking 23 players so I thought why not gamble with one of them? I know it is a gamble but he is a big talent. Pace in football is worth a lot. I’m excited by him, I can’t wait to work with him."
Tottenham's Jermain Defoe and Crystal Palace's Andrew Johnson are on stand-by as alternates, which mean's Charlton's revelation, striker Darren Bent, is not in Sven's plans.

England can forget any WC hopes with FORWARDS like that.

it's a shame Defoe didn't get pick, he should be on this team.Or in his place they should have considered Daren Bent. What a SHAME.

With names like Lampard, Gerrard, Beckham and Cole patroling the middle, England can still make some noise on the attack, with or without Rooney.

i like this kind of squad but eriksson should have addeddefoe because he is a striker who has both pacestrength and stamina

I think this FORWARDS was pick base on name rather than performance,Defoe should have made the roster.

defoe should not have been picked. you all don't know what you're talking about

I think that they will do very well this year with such a very strong defense and all.

Forget defoe I am glad Rooney has a chance. If I were sven i wouldn't get picky. But i think with a roster like that England will dominate.

I think England has a really good chance of winning the world cup, especially since the midfield and defense are so strong.I also agree with everyone else, DEPHOE should have made the side instead of that arsenal guy.

I love Wanye Rooney and i hope that he is eady to play come time to the world cup and im a little dissapointed the chosen midfielders like what about Dyer or Wright-Phillips.
Posted by: Footballer | May 22, 2006 09:39 AM
Why didn't Wright-Phillips get a pick? Or Dyer?
Anyway i think it's gonna be 4-5-1 or 3-5-2 England will play. Damn that Rooney got injured now when England had the best team ever....
