Paraguay's Santa Cruz In World Cup Scare

(Goal.com) - Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz faces a race against time to be fit for his country's World Cup opener against England after an injury scare at the weekend.

The German-based striker withdrew from his country's first pre-tournament training session in Austria on Saturday complaining of knee trouble. "I suddenly felt some pain. The muscle at the top of the knee went stiff. It wasn't a good feeling," the Bayern striker told Bild am Sonntag.

The 24-year-old has been plagued by injury in his last two campaigns at Bayern but made a comeback towards the end of the season to help the Bavarians to the German league and cup double. He tore a cruciate ligament and sustained a partial tear of the anterior ligament in his right knee while playing against Köln last October. The player will report for a medical in Munich today.
