'Provisional' Champions Juve Face Anxious Wait

(Goal.com) - Juventus won the Serie A title for the second year running by defeating Reggina 2-0 on the final day of the Italian season - but now they face an anxious wait while it is decided whether or not they can keep their championship.

A David Trezeguet header and a goal from substitute Alessandro Del Piero ensured that Juve finished three points clear of their nearest rivals, AC Milan (who won 2-1 at home to Roma) to clinch their 29th Scudetto.

It remains to be seen, however, if Italian football's governing body will allow Juve to retain this and last year's titles, given the ongoing investigation into alleged corruption in Serie A.

Juve went into the Reggina game under a dark cloud of suspicion following the resignation of their entire board on Thursday in the wake of publcation of transcripts of phone calls made by senior director Luciano Moggi. Many of these concerned refereeing appointments.

Despite the mounting problems of Italy's most successful club, Juve fans turned up in strength, determined to celebrate a title triumph in Bari, venue for the match because of Reggina's stadium ban.

And celebrate they did, but the joy may yet turn to despair.
