Ronnie: Now for the CL trophy

(Soccer365.com) - The Brazilian superstar is on track to reach the goals he set out for himself when he joined the Catalan squad.

Ronaldinho is well on his way to meeting the goals he set himself when he joined Barcelona a few years ago from Paris St Germain.

The Catalan club clinched its second straight title on Wednesday with a 1-0 win at Celta Vigo on Wednesday and just as last season, the Brazilian superstar was a major factor.

The Barca playmaker, who was close to signing for Manchester United from PSG but was persuaded to join the Spanish giants by former vice-president Sandro Rosell, a previous head of Nike in South America, could not be happier.

"I knew when I arrived that it was a big club that could achieve important things," Ronaldinho said.

"I signed for Barcelona because I wanted to play for a quality side that had the chance of making history.

"I am very happy to have been able to play a part in this new era for Barcelona and now we have to continue this way so as to win the Champions League in two weeks."

Barcelona will take on Arsenal in the final of Europe's elite club competition in Paris later this month.

"We have worked all season to arrive at this point and now we have to enjoy it because we deserve it," Ronaldinho continued.

"In the dressing room, we have remembered the bad times this season but they have been worth it."

Celebrations started in Vigo following the win over Celta before large crowds turned up at the airport in Barcelona to welcome the team back in the early hours of the morning.

Samuel Eto'o, the leading goalscorer in the Primera Liga, believes this year's triumph has more credit than 12 months ago. His 55th-minute strike at Celta secured the crown.

"It is even better because it is harder to win consecutive titles," he said.

"It is important now that the team finishes the season well and goes to Paris in good form.

"Winning the league is very important for the players because it is the reward for the effort we have put in over two years," he added, after scoring his 25th goal of the season.

"We hope the team continues in this form. I scored, which is good, but the important thing is the team and that we got the victory."
