Sheva Reports Knee Healing Well
(Soccer365.com) - Ukrainian attacker Andriy Shevchenko is optimistic he will be fit to take on Spain in their World Cup opener on June 14.
Ukraine striker Andriy Shevchenko is optimistic he will be fit to play in their World Cup opener against Spain on June 14.
Shevchenko's knee injury has affected his preparation for the tournament in Germany but he is confident he will captain Ukraine in their first World Cup finals.
The AC Milan forward has been out of action since earlier this month after damaging his knee during a Serie A game.
"My condition improves day by day," said Shevchenko. "I have to be careful not to speed things up as there are certain things that you cannot hurry.
"When the doctors examine me again, my condition and my World Cup hopes will be more clear."
Shevchenko, who is a key player in coach Oleh Blokhin's side, is currently on holiday in the Cote D'Azur.
He is set to return to Milan on Thursday, where he will undergo more tests.
The 29-year-old is set to announce later this week if he will join Chelsea this summer or accept the contract extension offered by the Rossoneri.
