Aragones Stays With Spain
(Goal.com) - Luis Aragonés has signed a new two-year to stay in charge of Spain and steer them into the 2008 European Championships.
The 67-year-old was rumoured to be considering quitting the post after La Furia Roja exited the World Cup this week following the 3-1 defeat to France.
After lengthy negotiations with the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), the former Atlético Madrid, Betis, Barcelona and Mallorca coach has agreed to remain in charge.
"The federation has convinced me to renew my contract," Aragonés said.
"There is the European Championship coming up and they needed a coach. They told me that they were happy with my work and that they wanted me to stay and I was pleased with that."
After taking over from Iñaki Saez in 2004, Aragonés oversaw a 25-match unbeaten run, before the French defeat, and that convinced RFEF officials that he is still the right man for the job.
