Conrad Pressed Into WC06 Duty
(Soccer365.com) - U.S. defender Jimmy Conrad says he didn’t have time to be nervous when Bruce Arena called on him to enter their tied World Cup game with Italy on Saturday night.
"I wasn't thinking all that much," he told reporters. "I didn't really have time."
"I think I had two or three runs to warm up, jump up a couple of times, put my jersey on and go out there."
The Kansas City Wizard helped the Americans keep the favored Italians at bay, despite having only nine men to the Azzurri’s 10, and posted an important 1-all draw to stay alive for advancement.
"We came up with the right plays at the right time," said Conrad. "We got a good result."
"We got a lot of team spirit and showed our character. "
