Figo Gets All-Clear for England Clash
(Goal.com) - FIFA have cleared Portugal winger Luis Figo to face England in Saturday’s World Cup quarterfinal clash.
The Inter star was booked for head-butting Mark van Bommel in the 1-0 win over Holland on Sunday but as the referee has already taken action, FIFA will not intervene on an offence that many believed merited a red card.
"He was sanctioned immediately by the referee at the time," said FIFA communications director Markus Siegler.
"The referee's report is being analysed by the relevant people but it is very unlikely anything will happen as he has been sanctioned already.
"It is only where there is a clear disciplinary issue which has not been acted upon by the referee that the (disciplinary) committee can look at it."
