Johnson Eyes European Adventure

(Soccer365.com) - U.S. striker Eddie Johnson says he is ready to continue his career abroad in order to raise his game.

"I want to be in an environment where there's just soccer, where every training session is intense like a game, where the quality and expectations are high," he told reporters at the team’s Hamburg base camp. "I want to be around the best players in the world and I want to play in sold-out stadiums."

"My dream is to play in Europe - hopefully, after the World Cup there will be more interest."

"I don't have anything against the MLS…. but I want to be the best I can be," stated Johnson. "I want to go to Europe."

"I want to deal with the pressures of Europe in an environment where soccer is huge and you have to be consistent every week," he declared.

"If I have a good World Cup, it would make everything a lot easier."

ya all tha way, tha USA will be way better in tha next world cup if some of the younger players go to europe after tha world cup.....donovan, dempsey, and johnson

this will be a good move for johnson, i think he will grow not only physically but mentally as a player by the european experience. but am i right when i say that the mls denied a contract for him with villareal? i might not be correct about villareal but i think it was a top flite spanish team. hopefully they can send off their prize player for the good of the country!

I think it would do eddie well to play in europe. With his pace he'd be a good addition to a small club. Probibly get him on the cheap as well.

Poor Eddie. He probably would have been able to get a deal in Europe if Bruce actually played him and at least gave the U.S. and chance.

I think we had a group of players that could have gotten the job done in Germany. That's why I spent alot of money I didn't have to make the trip. I just felt that Coach Arena wasn't at his best. Player choices, substitutions not made, etc. Mc Bride, Donovan and a few others had a sub-par showing, and Dempsey and Johnson should have been given an opportunity. When Johnson subbed in the first game he went right to goal, which was our biggest problem. We had opportunities to shoot and opted for passes, possession. I'm sorry, but the name of the game is, putting the ball in the back of the net. Reyna played 2 good games, but after giving up the goal in the Ghana game, became himself as the "injured" player that's played the last 3 World Cups. Our strength lay in the youth, speed and aggressive play of our young guns and they should have been given the opportunity to run at an older Italian back line. Sorry coach, but I feel you compromised the loyalty of older players like Mc Bride, Reyna, a not quite fit O'Brien by keeping our strength on the bench. One last thing, we need a WIN against Italy, not a draw. I saw Johnson warmup on the sidelines for about 20 minutes. Keller could have sent long balls down, let Johnson run on a tired Italian defense that may have made a mistake, and we could have had the WIN! Thanks for letting me share

I'm out of league here. Too much brain power on dislpay!
